The (horizontal parts of the) tops were dark grey. The yellow was there at the beginning of the sortie. The yellow at the end of the sortie is probable.

This leads nicely to the question, how on earth, with the ship rolling etc. in those waves, could someone be able to paint the higher located main turret tops? Must have been a dangerous job.
