WebThe Horsehead Nebula is one of the most famous nebulae on the sky. It is visible as the dark indentation to the red emission nebula in the center of the above photograph. The horse-head feature is dark because it is really an opaque dust cloud that lies in front of the bright red emission nebula. WebThe featured picture of the Flame Nebula (NGC 2024) was taken across three visible color bands with detail added by a long duration exposure taken in light emitted only by hydrogen. Last time processing of the … WebTo add to u/dadstiny, the horsehead (well the red wall behind it) is a hydrogen emession nebula. The wavelength that it emits at, is pretty close to infrared and our eyes arnt suppper sensitive to it. The horsehead is natoriously faint to visual observers. Anecdotally, I know someone who lives in a bortle 1 zone, who is retired with a 18inch scope.

On the other hand the detail of the Flame and the vibrance of the Ha around the Horsehead is fabulous in the PI result.
